Memorial services for Charles “Charley” William Carmichael, age 82 of Lindale, were held Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at the Sand Flat Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Saline.

Charley passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, in Kerens. He was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Mercer, Pennsylvania to the late Lamonte and Genoris Elizabeth (Lacaze) Carmichael.

Charley received his G.E.D. while serving in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He was assigned to the 101 st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He also served in Germany in the 103 rd Armored Division. As a civilian he worked as an over-the-road truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He also worked in the car business, bought out storage buildings, and had a resale shop. Charley enjoyed buying and selling, as he always found ways to make a dollar.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol Carmichael of Lindale; sons, Carl and Rodney Carmichael of Ohio; daughter, Candy Kay Burkhamer and husband, Ron of Ohio; stepdaughters, Paulette Alderman and husband, Doug of Iowa, Heather Messina and husband, Joseph of Virginia, and Shelly Schiappa and husband, John of Virgin ia; two brothers; one sister; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were under direction of Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of East Texas or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
